What is NLP?

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. In short, it is a powerful way of learning to run your own brain and thoughts with remarkable results. NLP was created by John Grinder and Richard Bandler from the University of California, Santa Cruz in the mid 1970s. Paul McKenna is one of the most famous UK Master NLP practitioners and champions of NLP. It works by recoding, repatterning and reprogramming the way information is stored in your brain so that it flattens out the neural charge and any negative emotion or behaviour associated with it. The techniques enable you acquire new skill-sets, eliminate unwanted behaviours and beliefs, and achieve quick tangible results that never fail to surprise and delight people.

The name Neuro Linguistic Programming relates to the following three areas:

Neuro - the mind and how we think

Linguistic – how we use language and how it affects us giving an insight into a person’s thinking

Programming - how we sequence our thinking, behavioural patterns and actions to achieve our goals.

The other great thing about NLP is that it is content free so if you don’t want to talk about the detail of the ‘issue’ that you want to change, you don’t have to as we work with the structure of your thoughts not the detail

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis can be described as an altered state of consciousness achieved when your mind and body are completely relaxed. This state of relaxation is completely natural and safe and you are aware and in control at all times during the session. Daydreaming or times when you have reached your destination but can’t recall the journey are also examples of hypnotic states in everyday life.

What will happen during an NLP/ Hypnosis session?

An NLP session aims to be both relaxed and enjoyable. It will be flexible and tailored to meet your needs. Initially an assessment of the presenting problem will be made and thereafter issues will be addressed by a combination of specific NLP techniques and methods including relaxation and hypnosis if required. At the end of a session a clear explanation of how a problem has been addressed will be given.

Are there any dangers or side effects to Hypnosis?

There are no substantiated cases of any harm coming to any person who has been hypnotised. After all, to be hypnotised only means that you are in a relaxed state! Hypnotherapy has been used since ancient times to provide a safe and drug free method of creating desired changes quickly. It is a relaxing natural process and there are no unpleasant or unwanted side effects. Being in a relaxed state allows your unconscious mind to be more receptive to new, beneficial suggestions. The British Medical Association and the American Medical Association have both endorsed the use of hypnotherapy since the 1950s.
